For Thomas Grooms, life is a rock, and the radio rolled him. During the Woodstock Music and Arts Festival in 1969 when Tom was just 19, he got a break reading the afternoon news at WHMC in Gaithersburg with Barry Richards. He was immediately smitten with this experience and it launched him into a lifetime career.
Beginning in 1972 through 1981 he hosted a music program on 102.3 WHFS, one of the country's premiere free-form progressive radio stations. From 1990-1992 Tom contributed to the syndicated Howard Stern radio and TV show as the Washington D.C. correspondent.
In 1994, invited as a guest by The Band's legendary Rick Danko, Grooms attended the 25th Anniversary of Woodstock in Saugerties, New York, from where he filed daily reports back to the studios at Classic Rock 105.9 WCXR... "After 25 years it was really cool to see both the Baby-Boomers and Generation X celebrating and experiencing all the latest changes in music and technology during Woodstock 94" said Grooms... "They rocked all week at sound check rehearsals & late night jam sessions that included Levon Helm & the Band, Slash, Jimmy Cliff, Jackyl, Graham Nash, Candlebox, Paul Rodgers, Green Day, Joe Cocker, Nine Inch Nails and Metallica."
Over his 40 years in radio, Tom Grooms has worked exclusively in the Washington, DC region for various stations including WPTX, WHMC, WHFS, WEAM, WINX, WJFK and WCXR. He cherishes the friendships he's forged along the way with artists and listeners alike, but most of all he remains dedicated and passionate about the music, and is thrilled to have the opportunity to once again play the songs that inspired him in the very beginning.
