Chili Amar

Unlike most people who live in the DC area... I'm actually FROM here. I was born in Northwest, DC and raised in Vienna, Virginia. I'm first generation Armenian-American. Shortly after graduating from Mary Washington College (now it's University of Mary Washington), I worked as a reporter/anchor on WMAL (our sister station). I then started doing traffic reports for our other sister station MIX 107.3.

I'm thrilled to join The EDGE every weekday from 3-7pm with traffic updates. We'll do our best to ROCK your ride home each afternoon!

A little more about me...

I'm a book worm (I read at least one novel a week). My favorite book is "To Kill a Mockingbird".
My favorite movie of all-time: "Rocky." I can quote it from beginning to end. It's pretty scary.
My favorite hometown team: The Capitals! You can often see me ROCKIN' the RED at the Verizon Center during hockey season.
My celeb crush: George Clooney. Honestly...is there any other man as YUMMY as he is??
I'm pretty good at: Texas Hold'em.
Must-see TV for me: DEADLIEST CATCH, RESCUE ME, GREYS ANATOMY, LOST, DEXTER, AND ENTOURAGE.
My "day job": I teach spinning classes at the gym in the morning...then head into work at the station.

"HILARIOUS REACTION TO MISS UNIVERSE PAGEANT"

I can't remember the last time I watched one of those "beauty" pageants on television. I think the MISS UNIVERSE pageant was on last night. I came across this viral video of a group of Philipino men reacting to Miss Phillipines making into the TOP 15.

I'm still laughing at their anticipation and celebration. HYSTERICAL! If you want to skip over the "anticipation" part and go right to the "reaction"...start at the 2:15 mark.

"MY SENTIMENTAL BLING"

Don and my uncle (who's a custom jeweler) designed this gorgeous ring. I can't believe it's mine. I tear up every time I look at it!

"HE PUT A RING ON IT!!"

Don and I went on our first date on December 27th, 2007. We became exclusive a few months later. He quickly became my best friend. We traveled really well together...and we co-existed without having to make too many sacrifices because our values are so similar.

We started talking about marriage about a year ago. I knew my "dating" days were over. Don was going to be my "plus one" for every invitation from here on out. Although I knew we'd eventually get engaged...I didn't know WHEN.

On Saturday, August 14th, Don and I started our day with a great workout at the gym. We then took a four-hour kayak tour along the Potomac. He suggested heading down to the Mall to check out the monuments since we hadn't done that in a while. We were both sweaty and sticky from our kayaking adventure (photos in previous blog).

We stopped to take photos of the Capitol and Monument behind us. Don said he wanted to walk a little closer to the Capitol for a better "view." We walked a few more yards before he dropped down to one knee and asked me to marry him! I said YES!! We grabbed a couple of tourists and asked them to take our first picture of as engaged couple. I'll share more details in a future blog.

"KAYAKING ON THE POTOMAC!"

Last year, Don and I signed up for a kayaking tour through Potomac Paddlesports. We chose the MONUMENT TOUR...which is basically four hours of kayaking on still water along G-W Parkway and Georgetown. We had so much fun...and it was a great upper body workout. LOL!
